Swim Groups

The Sanford Squids offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of the Sanford Squids Swim Team to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each swimmer to the best of THEIR abilities.

Swim Team
The Sanford Squids provide a year-round competitive swimming program for the people of Sanford, Lee County and the surrounding areas.  We participate in USA Swimming and North Carolina Swimming events throughout North Carolina and the southeast.  The Sanford Squids are members of the East Coast Swim League, and finished the Short-Course season ranked in the top 10 of the league!
 

Senior Group
Members of the Senior Group must be at least 12 years of age and be committed to the sport of swimming.  Practice participation is expected to be four to five practices every week, with weights and dry-land training two days a week.  Practices will focus upon training and conditioning, with emphasis on preparation for participation in swim meets representing the Sanford Squids.

Training will take place on Monday through Friday from 4:30-6:00.

Advanced Age Group
Members of the Advanced Age Group must be at least 8 years of age and have a mastery of all four competitive strokes.  Swimmers are expected to attend 3 practices each week, and will be introduced to the use of dryland training.  Practices will be designed to increase stamina and fitness, while continuing to focus upon proper stroke technique.  Meet participation is expected.

Training will take place on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 4:30-6:00.

Age Group
Members of the Age Group team must be at least 7 years of age, and be able to successfully swim all four competitve strokes.  Swimmers are encouraged to attend two practices each week.  Practices are designed to improve stroke technique and begin to build up endurance through training.  Swimmers are encouraged to participate in meets as a measure of improvement.

Training will take place on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday from 4:30-6:00

Squidlet II
Members of the Squidlet II group must be at least 6 years of age, and be able to complete 50 yards of Freestyle and Backstroke.  Practices are designed to teach proper technique of all four strokes, and most of the emphasis is on learning.  Once Freestyle is mastered, some training will take place, increasing endurance, strength and coordination.  Swimmers may participate in meets if they choose, with the approval of parents and coaches.

Training will take place on Tuesday and Thursday from 4:00-5:00 and 5:00-6:00

Squidlet I
Members of the Squidlet I group must be interested in learning the skills associated with competitive swimming.  In order to join the team, swimmers must complete one length of the pool Freestyle, with proper rhythmic breathing technique.  Practices are designed to teach the basics of competitive swimming, the four strokes, and the racing dive.  Swimmers are encouraged to go to a meet as a spectator, to learn more about competitive swimming.

Training will take place on Tueaday and Thursday from 4:00-5:00 and 5:00 to 6:00.
